A silly daydream I had while doing the washing up after lunch today. Distribute free copies of childrens' books to local schools.
This would have the following elements:
First thing to do would be to use public domain books, for example those from Project Gutenberg
Some sort of LaTeX
based approach may be best but I shouldn't rule
out other
possibilities. GutenMark is
an automated way of doing this from Gutenberg e-texts. The LaTeX
it
produces leaves something to be desired, however. For example, long
spaces after abbreviations, wrong sort of dashes. Maybe this would be
easily fixable. There would probably need to be some manual
intervention involved.
The same program can also produce HTML, which can then be formatted for print with something like html2ps or htmldoc.
