Students from Mexico and Latin America gathered in Morelia for the 14th edition of the Summer School in Astrophysics (EVA), organized by the Institute of Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics (IRyA) at UNAM, Campus Morelia, and held at its facilities.

This year, the EVA received 39 undergraduate students in physics and related fields from institutions in Baja California, Mexico City, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Jalisco, the State of Mexico, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Puebla, Veracruz, Yucatán, and Zacatecas, as well as Colombia and Honduras.

For two weeks, university students attended specialized courses and participated in interactive workshops offered mostly by the IRyA astronomy community, on topics such as exoplanets and planetary systems, stellar astrophysics and astrochemistry, the interstellar medium and the Milky Way, compact objects and relativistic astrophysics, extragalactic astrophysics and cosmology, multi-frequency astronomy and radio astronomy, exploration of James Webb Space Telescope data, and artificial intelligence (machine learning).

The EVA has been held in Morelia every two years since 1999 and is now established as one of the most important astrophysics training spaces for undergraduate students in Mexico and Latin America, now exceeding 500 students over these 26 years.

Many EVA former students have continued their graduate studies in astronomy and astrophysics at UNAM and other prestigious institutions in Mexico and abroad. Some now conduct research in astrophysics or other academic areas, as well as teaching and science communication, and area affiliated with higher education institutions across the country, including here in Morelia.

The 14th EVA was funded by the IRyA and the Coordination of Scientific Research at UNAM.
