•  In Morelia there will be observation sites at UNAM Campus Morelia, UNAM Centro Cultural Morelia and the Morelia Planetarium “Lic. Felipe Rivera”
  • The solar eclipse on April 8, 2024 will be partial in Michoacán, with a solar occultation of 81% in Morelia. However, the sky will not darken anywhere in the state.

With the aim of safely enjoying the next solar eclipse on April 8, 2024, the Eclipses Michoacán Local Committee will have three free observation venues:

  • UNAM Campus Morelia (Ant. Carretera a Pátzcuaro, opposite Tenencia Morelos)
  • UNAM Centro Cultural Morelia (Av. Acueducto &. Calz. Fr. Antonio de San Miguel)
  • Morelia Planetarium “Lic. Felipe Rivera”

Opening hours to the public at the three venues will be from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. At all locations the eclipse will be observed with telescopes and eclipse glasses, and there will be projection of the total eclipse live from various points in Mexico, as well as hands-on and cultural activities for all ages. A total of 30 telescopes, 3,000 eclipse glasses and 250 volunteers will serve an expected attendance of 15,000 to 20,000 people between the three venues.

From home, work, school or the street, people can view the eclipse safely with certified eclipse glasses or by using a cardboard with a small hole to project the eclipse indirectly onto a white surface. The sun should not be observed with the naked eye, nor through obsidian or other natural crystals, smoked or colored glass, negatives, x-rays, magnetic tapes or disks, water surfaces, reflections in mirrors, or conventional sunglasses. If viewed safely, the eclipse can be enjoyed by all people regardless of their condition, age or health.
