With the aim of safely enjoying the next solar eclipse, the Michoacán Local Committee for the observation of solar eclipses continues the work that began in January 2023, working alongside de Eclipses México Committee of Mexico.

The solar eclipse will occur on April 8, 2024 and will be total in regions of Sinaloa, Durango and Coahuila, while in the rest of the country it will be observed as partial, including Michoacán. This will be a great opportunity to enjoy this spectacle of nature, so it is important to prepare to appreciate it safely.

In Morelia there will be observation sites at the UNAM Campus Morelia (Antigua Carretera a Pátzcuaro, in front of Tenencia Morelos), at the UNAM Centro Cultural Morelia (Av. Acueducto esq. Calz. Fr. Antonio de San Miguel), and at the Morelia Planetarium “Lic. "Felipe Rivera." At these locations, people can safely observe de eclipse free of charge with telescopes and eclipse glasses, as well as with indirect projection methods. There will also be family-friendly activities related to the eclipse.

For those who cannot attend in person, the Committees will stream the eclipse on social media in real time from various points in the country to follow the path of the Moon's shadow over Mexico.

In addition, participating institutions have prepared materials describing observing methods and safety instructions to the public. These are already published on social media and the websites of Eclipses Michoacán and Eclipses México. There is also material available in P'urhépecha, Hñähñu (Otomi), Nahuatl and Mazahua, native languages spoken in our state, as well as in Mexican Sign Language.
