The Institute of Radioastronomy and Astrophysics at UNAM, Campus Morelia, congratulates Anibal Sierra Morales, a PhD graduate from this institute, for receiving the 2020 Doctorate Alfonso Caso Medal, given by UNAM to the most prominent postgraduate graduates.

Anibal Sierra conducted his PhD at IRyA in the 2016-2 to 2020-1 period, obtaining the degree of Dr. in Science (Astrophysics) on January 21, 2020 with the thesis titled Dynamics and Emission in Protoplanetary Disks, under the direction of Susana Lizano Soberón, emeritus researcher of UNAM at IRyA. His work also obtained an Honorary Mention upon graduation.

The Instituto de Radioastronomía y Astrofísica (IRyA), or Institute for Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics is an academic unit at UNAM, Campus Morelia, Mexico. The Institute’s personnel perform high-level and high-impact research in the areas of interstellar medium, star formation, evolved stars, high energy astrophysics, Galactic dynamics and structure, extragalactic astronomy and cosmology.
