The international conference “Follow the Monarchs: A Journey to Explore the Cosmos at (Sub)milliarcsecond Scales with the ngVLA” will benefit from a financial support of $65,000 Mexican pesos from the Institute of Science, Technology and Innovation of the State of Michoacán (ICTI). An agreement for this was signed between the ICTI and the Institute of Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics (IRyA) on August 27.
The aforementioned conference will take place from November 11 to 14, 2024 at the Mariano Matamoros Theater in Morelia, Michoacán. This conference will bring together over a hundred researchers from various regions around the world, as well as some 40 graduate students who will be the main beneficiaries of the financial support granted by the ICTI. Therefore, this event will serve to promote and strengthen scientific development in Michoacan, as well as promote the dissemination of cutting-edge scientific knowledge in this State.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Alejandra Ochoa Zarzosa, General Director of ICTI, Dr. Yunuen Tapia Torres, President of the Board of Directors of UNAM Campus Morelia, and Dr. Luis Alberto Zapata González, Director of IRyA. Also present were Dr. Alice Pasetto and Dr. Eric Faustino Jiménez Andrade, IRyA researchers, chair and co-chair respectively of the Local Organizing Committee of the conference. Its webpage is:

About the ngVLA
The ngVLA concept was proposed in 2016 and the project was presented at the ASTRO2020 Decadal Survey in the United States in 2019. The observatory will be composed of more than 250 antennas, distributed mainly in the southern United States (Arizona, New Mexico and Texas), with some antennas located in northern Mexico and Canada. Delivery of the ngVLA prototype antenna to the New Mexico site is expected in the first months of 2025.
In Mexico, the Institute of Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics (IRyA) at UNAM Campus Morelia, is supporting the logistics related to the antennas planned for northern Mexico. To learn more about UNAM's role in the ngVLA, watch these videos (in Spanish):
