The ngVLA, led by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO), will be the largest radio interferometer ever built in the northern hemisphere.

March 20 marked the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Center for Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics (CRyA), direct predecessor of what today is the Institute of Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics (IRyA) at UNAM, Campus Morelia.

These four UNAM women astronomers contributed to the consolidation of astronomy in Mexico. Today they are no longer here, but their legacy remains.

“It is important to make visible the role of women in all areas so that other women may understand that social and cultural barriers are fictional,” said Dr. Omaira González Martín, researcher at the Radioastronomy and Astrophysics Institute (IRyA) at UNAM Campus Morelia, upon receiving today March 8, 2023, the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Recognition.

The Institute of Radio Astronomy and Astrophysics (IRyA) at UNAM, Campus Morelia, invites its Astronomy Fridays for the first semester of 2023. In this cycle, academics from IRyA share general public talks on various astronomical topics (in Spanish), and the public can also observe the sky with telescopes with the support of IRyA graduate students.
